Kalashnikov's AK Alfa

I was never really a fan of the AK47—I always saw them as clunky, and not very ergonomic. Plus, that wood just didn't do it for me. I appreciated that the AK is the most prolific firearm in the world (or so I've heard), and it certainly always ran like a boss (I never had any problems running an AK in any conditions).

However, once Texas company Texas Weapons Systems outfitted my AK in some new furniture, and Lantac sent me their Dragon, I really came around. It not only looked better, but felt better, too. I realized that with some minimal tweaks and additions, my AK was… modernized.

I guess Kalashnikov saw what I did to mine and then decided to modernize the AK too--JUST KIDDING--I know this has been in the works for a long time. But modernize the AK is exactly what they did, and I think it's super exciting!

The AK Alfa, which should be available this spring, is modular and customizable. The buttstock is retractable and foldable, the cheek rest and buttpads are interchangeable, and the the safety lever, mag release and charging handle are all ambidextrous. The picatinny rail means the options are extensive. All this, and it's pretty sleek-looking, too.

No word yet on the MSRP, but we'd be hard-pressed to find anyone that would mind adding an Alfa to their collection.
